2008

Welcome to the website of the Yorkshire Churches on Show

18, 9, 10 July: Yorkshire Churches on Show
In the Church Pavilion at the Great Yorkshire Showground . The theme in 2008 is: "TheGood Shepherd"... John chapter 10: "I know my sheep and my sheep know me".  Building on the positive responses of previous years, the design team plan to offer a refreshing and inspiring labyrinth experience.  The aim is to enable visitors to explore, reflect upon, and encounter tenets of the Gospel in everyday life.

Focus will be particularly given to the Good Shepherd:

  • knowing his flock by name
  • feeding them
  • leading to places of refreshment
  • protecting them
  • leading through places of danger
  • rescuing them
  • and bringing them safely home

The labyrinth will have four areas where a person may pause and reflect....

sheep     Area 1 - The Green Places - where the sheep are fed

A power-point display introducing and re-telling the story of the Good Shepherd

Area 2 - The Place of Refreshment - where sheep rest

Inspiring images of creation reflected in a prayer pool, giving visitors opportunity to rest,
reflect and float their own prayers

sheep Area 3 - The Place of Danger - being shown the way

Confrontation with difficulties and dangers: around the world, in farming, in each of our lives,
with footsteps to help lead the way through danger.

Area 4 - A Place of Safety- coming home

Acknowledging that we are each called by name.  Given the opportunity to visitors to add their own name to the sheepfold.

Post - Show Report

By clicking here you can see some of the activity from this this year's exhibition.  For your information, 4631 people passed through the exhibition over the three days...including one quite important visitor.  This visitor left her initials on a paper sheep to be added to the sheepfold collage at the end of the display...HRH... mmm who might that be?!

Yorkshire Church on Show is supported by the Anglican Dioceses of Bradford, Ripon and Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield and York, along with the Baptist Union, Quaker Outreach in Yorkshire, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds, the Salvation Army and the Methodist Districts of Darlington, Leeds, West Yorkshire and York and Hull.
